Sales Executive, Precision CNC Machine Tools
Philadelphia / Mid-Atlantic territory
About the company
A fast-growing CNC machine tool distributorship with exclusive North American rights to a leading Japanese Swiss-type precision turning platform. It has grown market share by 50% or more in every territory it has entered and was named a USA Today Top Workplace.
The role
This is a hunter seat: open new accounts, convert shops running competitive equipment, and grow the existing base, with a dedicated Technical Account Manager handling post-sale support so you stay on new business.
Responsibilities
- Own the territory: eastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. About 70% of the opportunity sits within two hours of Philadelphia.
- Prospect and develop new precision machining accounts across aerospace, medical device, defense and contract manufacturing.
- Run the full capital equipment sales cycle: facility visits, technical consultation, machine demonstrations, turnkey proposals, negotiation and close.
- Identify shops running competitive Swiss and turning equipment and build the case for conversion.
- Work with applications engineers on demonstrations and turnkey proposals, and with the Technical Account Manager on repeat business in the install base.
- Build and execute account-level territory plans; keep forecasts and CRM current.
- Bring customers to the showroom in Connecticut for demos as needed.
- Represent the company at trade shows and customer events.
Compensation and benefits
- Base salary: $75,000
- Year one guarantee: $135,000 minimum ($60,000 commission backstop paid monthly)
- Realistic year one total: $140,000 to $200,000 depending on margin sold
- At plan: approximately $250,000. Uncapped.
- Commission on gross margin with tiers that pay retroactively to the first dollar as you climb
- Car allowance: $775 per month
- 23 paid days off in year one plus 10 paid holidays
- Medical, dental, vision and life insurance; 401(k) with company contribution; tuition reimbursement
Territory and travel
- Home base within roughly 45 minutes of Philadelphia. Eastern Pennsylvania or South Jersey preferred.
- Mostly day travel. Home most nights. Overnights are limited to showroom trips to Connecticut and an occasional Maryland loop.
Ideal candidate
- Technical sales background in machine tools or adjacent capital equipment. Sales engineers and technical sales specialists at machine tool distributors who are ready to carry the number are a strong fit.
- Also considered: fabrication or industrial capital equipment sellers, and technically strong people from the machining world with an engaging, articulate personality who want to move into sales.
- A relentless self-developer. You read, study, and work at getting better without being told. You will need to be fluent in the technology, the market, shop-floor vernacular and a strategic sales process inside six months.
- Operates with autonomy. Comfortable building a territory from a home office and knocking on doors, and able to move a deal, not just make the call.
- Consultative, relationship-driven approach. This is not transactional machine selling.
- Familiarity with precision machining customers in aerospace, medical, and contract manufacturing is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
