ABOUT THE COMPANY
This is an established commercial HVAC contractor with offices in Denver and Colorado Springs, operating as a partner company within a larger national platform. The business runs at roughly $10 million in revenue with strong operations and genuine capacity to take on more work.
The parent organization is a national energy solutions platform with roughly 40 partner companies across the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades, headquartered in the Southeast and continuing to acquire. Partner companies keep their own local brand, leadership, and identity while gaining the resources and backing of a national organization.
One feature worth understanding up front: the platform owns four Colorado partner companies covering mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation. Sellers work for one company but can cross-sell across all four through an endorsed partner sales program, earning a kickback on referred work. If you sell a project and the customer also needs another trade, you bring in the sister company and get paid on it. Very few contractors in this market can offer that.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The company is looking for a Project Sales Executive to lead project sales through both general contractor partnerships and direct-to-owner relationships, owning the full cycle from prospecting and estimating through close and handoff to operations.
This is solution-based selling rather than bid chasing. The work involves walking a building, understanding what the owner actually needs, and guiding technical decision making toward the right answer.
The operations side of this business is solid and ready for more volume. What is missing is the seller. This is a case of a company that can deliver more work than it is currently selling, which is a good position for someone who can build pipeline.
The role reports to the local operations leader, who also carries the sales management hat, with a dotted line to the platform's Director of Sales. Both are hands-on and run weekly sales meetings with pipeline review.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Development
• Identify and develop HVAC project opportunities through general contractor partnerships and direct-to-owner relationships.
• Maintain proactive relationships with GCs, construction managers, property owners, developers, and engineers.
• Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, pre-bid meetings, and networking opportunities.
• Cross-sell plumbing, electrical, and building automation work through the sister partner companies.
Technical Sales & Estimating
• Conduct site evaluations and lead solution-focused conversations about building needs and goals.
• Lead or collaborate on takeoffs, mechanical estimates, and proposal development with estimating and preconstruction.
• Deliver customized proposals highlighting technical solutions and ROI.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings and perform basic takeoffs and scope reviews.
Pipeline Ownership
• Own the entire sales process including prospecting, estimating input, closing, and handoff to operations.
• Maintain accurate pipeline tracking and forecasting in Salesforce.
• Provide strategic feedback to management on market trends, competitor activity, and new opportunities.
TERRITORY & WORK SETUP
• Territory is the Colorado Front Range, running from Greeley in the north to Pueblo in the south, with the Denver metro as the center of the work.
• Denver metro home base preferred. Offices are also available in Colorado Springs and Greeley for a candidate based in those markets.
• Mountain towns are outside the coverage area.
• Hybrid setup. Expect office presence during the first weeks to learn the business and the CRM, plus weekly sales meetings thereafter. Once a rhythm is established, the schedule is flexible and field-first.
• Almost no overnight travel. Pueblo is roughly a two and a half hour drive and Greeley about an hour and forty-five, so the territory is comfortably drivable.
• The company has moved much of its business toward direct-to-owner sales, though general contractor relationships remain a core channel.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• 5+ years of HVAC project sales experience with proven results in GC and owner-direct channels.
• Solid understanding of boilers, chillers, air systems, and the commercial HVAC project cycle.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and perform basic takeoffs and scope reviews.
• Familiarity with both plan and spec and design-build sales environments.
• Experience managing complex, multi-step sales cycles with multiple stakeholders.
• Consultative, solution-based selling mindset focused on solving problems rather than bidding work.
• CRM discipline, Salesforce preferred.
Preferred
• Bachelor's degree in business, mechanical engineering, construction management, or a related field.
• Existing relationships with Front Range general contractors, owners, or facility managers.
• Knowledge of electrification, decarbonization, or Colorado net zero requirements. Increasingly a selling advantage in this market.
• Background running or growing a mechanical contracting business.
WHO THRIVES HERE
This is a hands-on organization with direct access to leadership and genuine autonomy once you establish a rhythm. The people who do well are technically credible, self-directed, and patient enough to work a real construction cycle.
• Commercial background. Residential sellers consistently do not transfer to this work.
• Technically fluent enough to be taken seriously on a job walk. If you cannot tell an RTU from a boiler, this is not the seat.
• Realistic about ramp. Projects run roughly six months, so early pipeline takes time to convert to revenue.
• Comfortable letting operations own delivery. This is a sales seat, not cradle to grave.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
• Base salary $105,000 to $125,000 plus uncapped performance based commission. Flexibility exists for a candidate with a proven book of business.
• Company vehicle allowance and reimbursement for business related expenses.
• Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
• 401(k) with employer match.
• Paid time off and company holidays.
• Ongoing training, professional development, and growth opportunities as the platform expands.
• Endorsed partner sales kickback on cross-sold work across the Colorado partner companies.
