ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
A fast-growing CNC machine tool distributorship with exclusive rights to a leading Japanese Swiss-type precision turning platform. Part of one of the largest machine tool distribution networks in North America. The Technical Account Manager role is a purpose-built position that separates post-sale account management from new business development -- a modern sales structure borrowed from medical device and enterprise software industries.
THE ROLE
The Technical Account Manager owns all existing customer relationships within the Southern California territory, allowing the Sales Executive to focus exclusively on new business. The TAM is the customer's primary point of contact after the sale -- managing satisfaction, troubleshooting, training, and identifying expansion opportunities. When a customer is ready to purchase additional equipment, the TAM hands that opportunity to the Sales Executive and receives a bonus kicker on the sale.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Own and manage all existing precision turning customer accounts within the SoCal territory
• Conduct regular scheduled account visits at monthly or bi-monthly cadence to ensure customer satisfaction and machine performance
• Troubleshoot CNC equipment issues with customers by phone and in the field
• Deliver on-site operator training and process optimization guidance
• Identify expansion and upsell opportunities; coordinate with the Sales Executive on new equipment leads
• Sell ancillary products including tooling, accessories, and productivity solutions
• Maintain accurate account records in Salesforce
• Coordinate with service and applications engineering teams on complex customer needs
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
• Base salary: $80,000
• At-plan total: $95,000 -- $110,000
• Commission on ancillary sales (tooling, accessories): up to $20,000
• Equipment bonus: $500 -- $1,000 per new machine sale referred to the Sales Executive
• Car allowance: $725/month plus gas card
• Full health, dental, and vision coverage
• 401(k)
• 3 Weeks PTO
IDEAL CANDIDATE
• Hands-on CNC machine tool background required -- Swiss/sliding headstock experience strongly preferred
• Customer-facing personality: detail-oriented, relationship builder, responsive, and technically credible
• Located in Orange County or LA area -- Orange County preferred
• Earlier-career professionals welcome -- company will train on product specifics
• Perfect fit for: top CNC machinists or operators ready to transition to customer-facing work, tooling sales reps with CNC background, or technical service reps
